SOME EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE ON THE CYCLICAL BEHAVIOUR OF PRICES IN THE CHINESE ECONOMY
The cyclical behaviour of prices in China is investigated over the period 1952-1994 using high quality, purpose-constructed data. The results shows that while prices were strongly countercyclical in the early part of the period, their behaviour has changed. The change in the cyclical behaviour of prices is attributed to measures of economic reform, which have gives rise to demand shocks.
